About Castell Courtyard

Castell Courtyard is a massive 5-star barn conversion in Powys, Wales. It sleeps up to 24 people across 11 bedrooms - perfect for that big family reunion where you want everyone together but not TOO together.

The Welsh countryside views are spectacular from this hillside position. You're just a short drive from Lake Vyrnwy and the impressive Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall - Britain's tallest single-drop waterfall. After a day of hiking, you'll appreciate coming back to soak those tired muscles in the private hot tub while someone else fires up the BBQ. The sheep will be watching you, but they've seen it all before.

The accommodation is split into three wings. The North Wing has five bedrooms including a ground-floor king with wet room. The Centre Wing offers three bedrooms including a family room. The South Wing has three more bedrooms. Nine bathrooms mean no morning queues, while two sitting rooms (seating 20 and 12) ensure space for everyone. The kitchen has a Rangemaster cooker and everything needed for group meals.

Nearby attractions include Lake Vyrnwy (15 miles) with its Victorian dam and RSPB reserve, Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall (5 miles), Powis Castle (20 miles) and the market town of Oswestry (15 miles). The games barn with pool table, table tennis and darts will keep everyone entertained when it rains.

Absolutely amazing property didnt want to leave! Even better than the photos every need catered for We even took advantage of dinner on our arrival which was really good and saved cooking or messing when we got there Already looking at rebooking for the next family occasion
Amazing house clean everything we needed and more was greeted by owner very nice and polite man would definitely return and recommended.
We had a wonderful stay. Helen, the owner, was very helpful. The accommodation was perfect. The pictures didn't do it full justice. It's spacious, warm, very clean, very spacious and well laid out. I booked it for a big birthday. We had 6 families staying, some with young kids, and the layout works well, ensuring everyone has the right combination of privacy, but with a connecting kitchen and two lounges letting the kids and families mix easily. The kitchen and dinning space was perfectly ample for the main meal. We had plenty of parking. The games room is great, though we didn't get around to using it. The hot tub is extra large which was also a great factor. Additionally I'd recommend going to see the Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall a few minutes away down the road. That added very well to our stay as it's so impressive. All in all we'd happily book again. A great stay.

We had such an amazing time in this amazing property. Helen was very quick to respond when we sent her a message. The carpets were soft and the beds were truly comfortable. The whole place was better than what we expected. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we wish we had stayed longer. The games room was a treat to everyone. Thank you Helen for being a great host. Absolutely stunning property! The property was clean, everything was working, rooms were comfortable, there was enough space and bathrooms for 24 people. The kitchen was well stocked and has everything you would need. The host was very efficient at dealing with requests. The hot tub was a particular highlight for the adults! Collecting freshly laid eggs from the chickens was enjoyable for the kids! Thank you for an amazing stay. We will be back again!

Our stay was great and Helen and her staff were very amenable. Castell Courtyard was very well equipped and the location was lovely. We particularly liked the games room and the hot tub! The only things which wed like to mention are the following We found having only one 4 piece toaster for 24 guests a bit of a struggle! It was also very slow and took more than 3 mins to toast 4 slices so over half an hour just to toast 2 slices of toast each in the mornings! We were grateful that you lent us your hairdryer but again 1 hairdryer amongst 24 guests was a bit of a challenge! We would have preferred to have paid a few pounds more and had some shower gelshampoo and a few more toilet rolls in each bathroom and a few more dishwasher tablets so that we didnt hand to replenish them!

This was our second visit. We plan to go again. Not a lot more to say other than wonderful. The owners are very friendly the barn is very good. The location is special. The first visit was in October this time we went in June. The different season showed a different aspect to the location and we would go back again any time.
Amazing house which was perfectly set up for large gathering 12 adults and 9 children, including fully equipped kitchen and spacious social areas. Great location with waterfalls, lakes and walks a plenty on the doorstep. Friendly and helpful owners. Cannot be faulted. 5 stars

We celebrated my daughters hen doo here ,there where 20 of us. The house is amazing the owner Helen could not of been more helpful and she cooked for us all on the Saturday night and the food was beautiful. We had an excellent stay as a large family to celebrate our mums 70 birthday at Castell courtyard. A beautiful barb conversion with peaceful scenery. Helen was very accommodating and provided us with fantastic catering last minute as our original caterer cancelled on us. Helen used locally sourced produce for the meals and the desserts were delicious. Castell courtyard has beautiful surroundings and the accommodation has everything you need. The furniture and fittings are all of top quality and the attention to detail was fantastic. We had a great visit paddle boarding on Lake Vrynwy and visited the waterfall and local village pub for a roast. Everything about our stay at Castell courtyard was perfect and we would highly recommend.

The holiday was wonderful. 3 families from 15 months to 83 years. Plenty of space for all. This is by far the best holiday house we have stayed in for its comfort, facilities and spaces and we have stayed in many over the years! Helen provided us with a beautiful meal on 2 occasions. Both buffet and sit down family meal on Saturday evening. The food was excellent, easily as good, if not better than any restaurant, and such a treat for us, a proper holiday rest. Beautiful surroundings and walks from the accommodation. Plenty to see and do around about. Would thoroughly recommend both the holiday house and the area. Just what we all needed. The property is absolutely beautiful. As soon as you walked in the front door it was WOW. There was everything you could possibly want for your stay away, it was home from home. We also booked a range of meals from Helen for the Saturday night to celebrate Mums 80th birthday, they were also 5 star. Our party consisted of 15 adults and one child. Castell Courtyard is a wonderful place in a wonderful location. The property is extremely nice and probably the best Sykes Cottages property we have ever stayed in and that is quite a few now over the years. Castell Courtyard was very welcoming, clean and warm especially with the log fires burning. An ideal base for setting out from to see the surrounding area. The building being old converted barns has lots of character and the facilities are top notch with us as a party of 19 not requiring or running short of anything. The owners are really friendly and have a very happy cat who comes calling along with the ability to collect eggs from their chickens does make it feel like home. Overall Perfect.

The grounds and property are stunning. We had the most amazing time. All the rooms are beautiful and comfortable. The kitchendining hall was a great place to convene, the facilities are brilliant. Then theres the hot tub which is huge, In a lovely spot to take in the fantastic view. We would love to stay here again. We went as a big group of friends in our 30s and it was perfect but could happily come back with family and children.
This property is even better than it looks from the photos. The two sitting areas and tvs were a bonus for a mixed family group. Every room, especially the bedrooms, was comfortable and stylishly presented. The kitchen had everything we needed even 2 dishwashers! The hot tub and barbecue were well used by us and we appreciated a safe enclosed garden for the younger ones.We stayed here as a family group to celebrate my 70th birthday. Everyone ranging in age from 20 months upwards had a wonderful time. We would book again. The recommended caterer served a delicious meal. The butcher in the village sells fabulous barbecue meats etc
Superbly appointed property with lots of space for a large extended family necessary for the vagaries of North Wales weather! Big kitchen dining area with everything provided, including 2 dishwashers and 2 refrigerators two sinks rather than just one would have been better and this is the only negative comment. Very good WiFi. Excellent and large hot tub, which was very popular. Beautiful surroundings and lovely Lake Bala not too far away.

Our second visit to Castell Courtyard, as enjoyable as our previous visit in February 2019. The property is magnificent, providing space and comfort for our large family group which ranged from 3 months to 60 years. Helen and Aled are on hand to promptly deal with any issues ... not that there are many. Aled drove to his brother's one evening, to replace an empty BBQ gas cannister. Our only regret is that an increasing number of partners and babies will probably mean that we will outgrow the capacity of 24 beds in coming years.

Excellent property for a large family gathering. The layout meant that our five family groups could each have their own 'private' sleeping areas which worked out very well. In fact all the inside and outside areas are excellent for either everyone joining together or for having some personal space when needed. We had booked in March 2019, intending to holiday in May 2020 so after having to postpone twice we eventually made it this year! Well worth the wait, although sadly some family members were unable to come in the end. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful, answering all our many upfront queries! We would also recommend the caterer wonderful food. All in all we cannot recommend Castell Courtyard highly enough. Definitely five stars plus. Thank you Helen and Aled

Castell Courtyard is PERFECT! !! It is such a beautiful house in the most perfect of surroundings. Myself and 21 of my friends visited for a hen partybirthday weekend where we got to feed the lambs, relax in the hot tub and enjoy the lovely house and the views. I cannot recommend enough!!!!

Just WOW! We booked this cottage for 24 ladies for a hen weekend and it could not have been any better! From the initial help we had from Sykes making sure we found the right property, to the prearrival help from the owner who is the most loveliest of ladies! to our arrival and full enjoyment of the house all weekend. The house was immaculate, maintained to the highest of standards and complete with only high spec fixtures and fittings, it just had it all! Including the biggest hot tub weve ever been in. Plus the flowers and fizz were such a lovely touch and added bonus. Were already discussing our return trip and cannot wait to rebook! Thank you all for the best weekend, good memories forever!

What a fabulous place. The venue was very clean, the decorative order was excellent, the quality of the kitchen equipment, furniture, crockery, cutlery etc first rate. Bedrooms were proper doubles, with crisp clean bedding. For larger groups and bigger family gatherings, this is an ideal property which can comfortably accommodate all guests. Can highly recommend this for your holiday stay or celebration.
Castell Courtyard is such a well thought out property with it's two lounges, large kitchen, hot tub that was very popular. The furnishings, crockery etc were the best and so many comfortable bedrooms. Most importantly were the property owners who were so helpful and friendly.
I was looking forward to celebrating my 70th birthday with my family, and Castell Courtyard did not disappoint. The standard of furniture, fittings, hot tub, linen and furnishings were of a high standard, and the beds were so comfortable. When we arrived the house was spotless, with beautiful flowers and 2 bottles of fizz for my celebrations. The owners were approachable and friendly, and any queries were dealt with immediately. The views and walks are spectacular, and so peaceful, if you are looking for luxury, quiet and tranquility Castell Courtyard is for you.
